Onika is a public speaker, writer, podcaster and mental health advocate. Her journey with Bipolar I Disorder spans over 20 years giving her a unique perspective on managing mental illness while navigating the complexities of the mental healthcare system. Onika is also a certified Peer Support Specialist who shares her lived experience to make a difference in the lives of individuals struggling on their journey to wellness. Â
She started a mental health podcast called DaintyDysh in 2017 and used the platform to feature stories of recovery and resilience. She participated in the 2019/2020 Bell Let’s Talk/CAMIMH Faces of Mental Illness Campaign becoming a National Ambassador for Mental Health in Canada and has been featured in the Huffington Post, on CTV News and on CBC Gem.
In 2024 Onika combined her love of writing and storytelling to build a blog about mental wellness, recovery/remission, self-care, and the realities of living with mental illness. Onika uses her passion for sharing her lived experiences to raise awareness, offer insights into managing Bipolar I Disorder, and writes true stories that challenge the narrative around mental illness in our communities. Onika creates opportunities to have meaningful conversations that take you beyond the stigma. Â
